President’s Message to Members
My fellow Lions
By now, I believe that all of us will have received the formal notice of our Annual General Meeting (AGM) which is scheduled for Wednesday, 5 November. The notice is accompanied by the set of audited account statements of our Club for the 2007-8 Lions Year which ended on 30 June this year. At the AGM, these accounts will be considered and a vote will be taken for the Club to accept them. The AGM commences at 7:30pm. This is followed by our November members meeting. Please come and attend if you can.
At our November Members meeting, we will be joined by Ms Laila Hallam, Marketing & Communications Manager of St John (NSW). As St John is our Major Beneficiary of Charity Ball 2009, we have invited Laila to come to meet with us and to briefly introduce to us the wonderful services offered by St John.
As you are aware, preparations for our Charity Ball 2009 is progressing in earnest. At our last Ball Organising Committee meeting, many nice gifts were donated by some of our members. This is indeed a flying start for prize donations and I sincerely hope other members will soon follow suite.
We are hoping to collect all of the prizes by mid November so that details of these can be properly recorded and acknowledged in our Ball Commemorative Booklet. If you wish to help promote Charity Ball 2009, an article introducing our Club and Charity Ball 2009 is published on page 2 of our October 2008 Bulletin. Do pass this on to all interested parties.
Our Christmas Party 2008 is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, 10 December. Please note this is the SECOND Wednesday of the month. We have shifted the party date from our usual first Wednesday of the month to the second because we wish to have the party held closer to Christmas. A copy of the invitation can be found on page 3 of the October 2008 Bulletin. Please RSVP Secretary Crystal by 1 December.
Our Finnish twin, Lions Club of Javenpaa Ainot, has put together a very nice information package introducing themselves and their activities. Some highlights are reprinted on pages 4-5 of the October 2008 Bulletin with their kind permission,
See you at the AGM!
Yours in Lionism
Dr. Anthony Cheung JP
